White House Public Policy, Global Trade Expert Strengthens APCO's Government Relations Bench
Washington, D.C. (February 7, 2012) – Paul Dyck, former associate White House political director and deputy assistant secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. Department of Commerce, joins APCO Worldwide as a senior vice president in the firm's government relations practice, Barry Schumacher, senior vice president and practice director, announced today.
"Paul's comprehensive understanding of public policy and international commercial issues is an invaluable combination that will be a significant resource to our clients," said Schumacher. "His 15 years of senior-level experience in public affairs will enable him to develop and execute strategies to effectively shape legislation."
Dyck has been serving as a senior counselor for APCO Worldwide, where he represented clients on a number of international and domestic policy issues.
Previously, Dyck served as deputy assistant secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the Department of Commerce. He played a large role in facilitating the bilateral commercial relationship with 52 countries throughout Europe and Asia, including Russia, Turkey and the Caucasus, ensuring fair treatment and open markets for American exporters. He also worked with foreign government officials to resolve commercial disputes.
Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, Dyck was a senior advisor to former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, where he managed the secretary's strategic planning and policy agenda and coordinated outreach to think tanks, business leaders, and other domestic and international interest groups.
"I've enjoyed working with the talented team at APCO and look forward to transitioning to an integrated, full-time role with the firm," said Dyck. "I'm excited to use my public-service experience and knowledge to facilitate beneficial relationships between clients, governments and stakeholders."
Earlier in his career, Dyck served as associate White House political director, where he managed the president's domestic political and policy agenda for the southern states and oversaw key state and federal political campaigns. His knowledge of domestic affairs is further bolstered by his time as legislative director for Texas State Representative Jim Keffer (R).
Dyck adds to a strong team of government relations and trade policy experts at APCO, including: Ira Kasoff, former deputy assistant secretary for Asia for the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration; Jim Moore, former U.S. assistant secretary of commerce for trade development; Baron Hill and Don Bonker, former members of the U.S. House of Representatives; Marc Ginsberg, former presidential adviser and former U.S. ambassador; and Don Riegle, former U.S. senator and congressman.
